Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes,
and accounts for roughly 90 to 95 percent of all diabetes. It usually
develops after the age of 40. However, the incidence is increasing at
a rapid rate among young people. This is due to the preparation of
foods and the poor American diet. It is also related to the increased
incidence of obesity and sedentary lifestyles among young people in
the US. About 80 percent of those with type 2 diabetes are overweight.
It is more common among people who are older, sedentary or obese, or
have a family history of the disease. It is common among people of
African, Asian, Hispanic or Native American ancestry.
Type 2 diabetes is a disease which progresses and can
cause significant, severe complications such as heart disease, kidney
disease, blindness and loss of limbs through amputation over time.
Treatment differs at various stages of the condition. In its early
stages, many people with type 2 diabetes can control their blood
glucose levels by losing weight, eating properly, exercising, changing
their environment and taking the proper nutritional supplements.
Normally, your blood sugar rises after a meal as
glucose is absorbed into the blood stream. This causes the pancreas to
produce enough insulin to return the blood sugar to a normal level.
Diabetic individuals are either unable to produce enough insulin or
their cells have become resistant to insulin and they are unable to
transport glucose from the blood stream to the cells, thus, they
cannot maintain a normal blood glucose level. The cost of diabetes and
its complications today is an estimated $100 billion annually
accounting for about 15% of the current health care spending. It is
almost a law that any person 30% overweight for thirty years will
become a diabetic. The current medical establishment has no treatment
or cure for the disease. I believe there is an answer.
